Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Afghan presidential candidate, has extended condolences to UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon over the loss of life of UN staff, resulting from yesterday’s terrorist attack on a guest house in Kabul in which a number of UN staff was residing. The attack claimed the lives of five UN staff and a number of Afghan security forces.
“I wish to express my deepest condolences to you and the UN family over the loss of life of 5 UN staff as a result of today’s heinous and brutal attack on the guest house in Kabul. Our profound sympathies are with the families of the victims,” noted Dr. Abdullah in a letter addressed to Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon.
Dr. Abdullah Abdullah also described the attack as “the latest attempt by Afghanistan’s enemies to deter the partnership of the Afghan people and the international community for achieving a secure, stable and democratic Afghanistan.”
Moreover, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah highlighted the “vital and central role of the United Nations as part of international efforts in Afghanistan’s reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts,” and underscored “a renewed and strengthened partnership in the way forward.”
