U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown Phone Calls H.E. Dr. Abdullah

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, H.E. Gordon Brown called Dr. Abdullah to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan. Dr. Abdullah conveyed the gratitude of the Afghan people for the continued support that the United Kingdom has been providing for the ongoing reconstruction process in Afghanistan. Prime Minister Brown also praised the impressive campaign that Dr. Abdullah ran during the elections and commented on how the Afghan people showed great patience in awaiting the outcome of the election results.

Prime Minister Brown also informed that he will be announcing, at the House of Commons, the United Kingdom’s decision to increase their support in the training of the Afghan National Army. It was also mentioned that the U.K. plans to continue its support for Afghanistan. Dr. Abdullah extended his appreciation for the U.K.’s support and indicated that U.K. renewed support would help to further strengthen the Afghan National Army in terms of both numbers and capacity.

Prime Minister Brown stated that he would like to continue to stay in touch with Dr. Abdullah as the U.K. continues to provide support to Afghanistan.
