EU President Meets Dr. Abdullah
Tuesday, September 1, 2009/Kabul

The periodic President of the European Union and the foreign minister of Sweden met with Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the frontrunner candidate for the presidency of Afghanistan.

In this meeting that took place today, Tuesday, September 1, 2009 in Dr. Abdullah's residence Mr. Carl Bejldett (spelling?) extended his appreciation to Dr. Abdullah for the latter's enthusiastic and popular campaign which established a new and important trend in the country's current political process.

The periodic President of the EU said “Afghanistan's elections took place under difficult security conditions and you with your important role strengthened the political process of the country.” He added “The European Union and especially Sweden support the principle of holding the elections and the continuation of the current political process and will support the results of the elections if they are acceptable to the people of Afghanistan.

The Foreign Minister of Sweden which holds the periodic presidency of the European Union emphasized that Afghanistan and the continuation of the political process here are a basic priority of the EU and said “The principle in every election is its transparency and health and we support such an election in Afghanistan.”

He emphasized cooperation with a government that will come into being as a result of transparent elections in Afghanistan.

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the beloved and famous Afghan candidate, also appreciated the good ideas of the periodic President of the EU and the EU's cooperation with the people of Afghanistan and said “Our presence in the campaign is because of understanding the sensitive and complex conditions of Afghanistan, and because of rescuing the process and freeing the people from despair and fatigue from the current situation. And to change this situation and improve the lives of the people and solve the current difficult situation we have stepped into this campaign.”

Dr. Abdullah added “Today the people of Afghanistan who entered the elections with hope and love for change and with accepting many risks and threats, are witnessing organized and premeditated fraud, and if there is no serious attention to this

fraud, democracy's credibility and national participation will be damaged and the people will lose trust in their own role and influence in deciding their own destiny.”

Dr. Abdullah, in referring to the organized and premeditated fraud, emphasized that to attend to this fraud and clarify its extensive dimensions we will resort to legal means and we are not willing to retreat even one step away from restoring the right of the people.

At the end, Dr. Abdullah thanked Dr. Bejldit, the periodic President of the EU for his emphasis on continuation of EU's support of the people of Afghanistan.
