Continuing election activities, thousands of inhabitants of districts and members of various ethnic and tribal groups from the provinces of Kandahar, Zabul, Helmand and Uruzgan attended a large rally in the city of Kandahar to receive Dr. Abdullah.

In this impressive rally, religious scholars, members of different political parties and social councils, members of the Wolesi Jirga (People's Council of the Parliament), women, youth and athletes had all come together.

General Abdul Khaleq, representing Kandahar city residents and Dr. Abdullah's campaign manager there, enumerated Dr. Abdullah's program points and invited the participants to take part in the elections.

Nurul Haq Ulumi, people's representative in the Parliament, spoke about the elections, and criticized the seven year presidency of Karzi when all along it was not been able to be responsive to the people's wishes.

Abdullah thanked the people of the four provinces for their support and said “In my programs I will give priority to the people and provinces of the South. I will put their problems as first in my plan of action and will deal with insecurity, government corruption, poverty and joblessness, and growth and trafficking of drugs.”

Dr. Abdullah also said that his efforts will be to strengthen the national security and defense forces and prepare the conditions such that there will be no need to have foreign forces in the country.

He continued “We will no longer allow that the sons of Afghanistan unjustly become prisoners or lost their life in military operations.”

Dr. Abdullah added “Have faith in one of your sons and give him the opportunity to return the power back to yourselves.”
