| On Monday, the place where years ago the horrible silence of witnesses accompanied the half-dead body of a victimized woman and was observer to the saddest crimes against humanity, became the carpet of ten thousand peaceful women’s footsteps. Women of capital in the Ghazi Stadium of Kabul supported with an unbelievable excitement the only candidate whose election color is blue and wants that his nation can practice the green shoots of new thinking.
“Woman is a being that with one hand rocks the cradle and with the other the world” was a slogan in whose words the women of the capital could see the power of their presence.
Ms. Shekeba Saifi, the official in charge of central zone of Dr. Abdullah’s campaign office, who began the program said “now our nation, especially women, have reached a deep political awareness and a level of knowledge of what is going on in our country and are working hard to bring about positive and hopeful change.
She added “if women want their rights restored, if they want their honor kept, and want poverty, unhappiness and homelessness not to come to them, they should support Dr. Abdullah.”
In the same manner, Homa Sultani, Chair of Justice Seekers Coalition also spoke and considered the presence of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs a symbolic gesture. She criticized the weak management of the current administration, and considered as window dressing the presence of women in government offices and said “We are supporting Dr. Abdullah so that in his administration women can truly be active and really effective in all organs of the government.”
Dr. Abdullah who was being received by the women in a warm and extraordinary way, addressing women said “today, you sisters, to support our programs, have gathered in a place which years ago was witness to the saddest events against humanity.” He said “You have come as a gesture of protest against the illogical and unreasonable actions of the previous government and lack of attention of the current government to women.”
He referred to women who were purposefully marginalized in the current government and said “I promise and commit myself that in the next government, with using the principle of merit these women will play their effective role.”
He continued “As we know, in the past, the fundamental rights of women have been trampled and they did not have in the correct way the right to ownership of property and the right to receive inheritance. I commit myself that in the future to have programs to prepare the conditions for increasing capacity among different segments of women’s society.” He also insisted that by taking government out of making slogans and ensuring national unity he would prevent violence against women and would deal in a legal manner with perpetrators of violence. He continued “fight against unacceptable traditions and incorrect mores which are now under the umbrella of religion and culture, that he would prepare the conditions to nurture the culture of thinking and understanding each other so that we could bring about real peace.”
He went on to say “Our slogan is change and hope. Change in the anti-peace thinking, change in the way we look at our co-citizens, change in the way of knowing ourselves and our position, and finally change in the social, political, economic and cultural structure of the country so that all of us can live together with dignity and be proud that we are together.”
At the end he concluded “Each one of you are responsible for my campaign so that we can come out of this historical test successful.”
